I sought out this shop as a potential first time bird owner. I came in to look at green cheek conures, maybe meet some, talk about if one would be right for me. But when I got in, the first thing I noticed is that all they have are store bought cages, the kind you might get in a pet bird starter kit, just randomly sitting in an otherwise empty strip mall unit, most of them empty. If they had any supplies or toys in stock, I didn’t notice them. And there was a badly plucked macaw sitting on top of one. Ok, I thought, maybe stock is low, and having professional looking cage-displays like a big-box pet store doesn’t make it a good shop. And maybe the macaw is a recent rescue, or has some long standing issues... Then someone emerged from the back. I thought, perhaps friendly service and great information would make up for the sloppy, empty appearance! ...nope. The man sped past me in a huff, clearly irritated with his cleaning chores. I was the only person in the shop. He gave me a quick “hi” and walked past and started cleaning one of the cages. I followed. “Do you have any green cheek conures?” I asked. “Nope, sold ‘em all before Christmas, don’t know when we’ll have more, breeders are sitting on some eggs, but other than that I don’t know anything”, he said, without even shifting his attention from his task. I left. In conclusion, what I found at World of Birds was a disgruntled man who doesn’t care for his job, his customers, a sale, or a chance to educate a potential parrot owner. I know appearance isn’t everything, but in this case, the appearance communicates that the owners don’t care. Well, I don’t care either, I don’t care to return.
